EMDR Therapy in Arlington, TX

You understand what happened to you. You can explain it clearly, maybe even calmly — and your body still hasn’t gotten the message. EMDR therapy works on that gap, addressing memories that talking alone hasn’t resolved. Greater House Counseling provides EMDR in Arlington, TX with a fully certified EMDR therapist, available in person or online across Texas.

What EMDR actually is

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. When something overwhelming happens, the memory can get stored without ever being fully processed — so it stays raw, and present-day things keep pulling you back into it. EMDR uses guided eye movements, tapping, or sound while you make brief contact with the memory, which helps your brain finish the processing it never got to do.

It is not hypnosis. You stay awake and in control the whole time. And it doesn’t erase the memory — it changes how much of your present the memory gets to occupy.

You don’t have to retell the whole story

This is the part most people are relieved to hear. EMDR doesn’t require you to narrate every detail out loud. For a lot of people — especially anyone who has already told the story enough times to go numb saying it — that alone makes the work possible.

What the first sessions look like

We don’t start with the hardest thing. The first sessions are about getting you steady enough to do the work: understanding how your nervous system responds, and building something to come back to when it gets intense. Only then do we start reprocessing, and we go at the pace your body can actually tolerate.

If it becomes too much in a session, we stop and settle before continuing. You are not going to be pushed through something you can’t hold.

What EMDR helps with

  • Childhood trauma and attachment wounds that keep showing up in adult relationships
  • A single overwhelming event — an accident, an assault, a loss, a medical crisis
  • Betrayal and infidelity, where the images won’t stop replaying
  • Grief that has gotten stuck rather than moved
  • Anxiety and panic that trace back to something specific, even if you can’t name it yet

Certified in EMDR

EMDR takes specific training beyond a general therapy license, and I’m certified in it. If you’re comparing providers, it’s a reasonable thing to ask any of them about.

EMDR is rarely the whole plan. It usually sits inside broader trauma therapy or individual counseling, as the tool we reach for when talking has taken you as far as it can.

If you’ve been circling this for a while, that’s normal — and it doesn’t mean you’re not ready.

You don't have to figure this out alone.
